Spring May- June Travels~

Well, I hit the road a few weeks ago… driving from my Breckenridge Colorado home to New Jersey for some quality family time. My sister Jaime was expecting a new baby the end of April. My new niece entered the world April 30, 2011 at 5:14 a.m. Baby Gia Diamond has been the focus of my artistic ventures before and after her arrival. Currently this project is still unfolding, yet I wanted to share a few images until my final chosen photographs and future paintings emerge.

Southern Hemisphere

Well, my long awaited trip to Australia has now come and gone. Leaving the snow for mid-summer down under was not that bad since I am quite temperamental of the heat, until a few heat waves cruised through. But I did enjoy the sun on my skin! Queensland was so beautiful and tropical. I met up with my beautiful, talented friend Jo Harrison and her fella Matt. Seriously, the sweetest couple ever! Surf n’ Ink was new for me, and everyone down there was so welcoming and helpful. Even though it was heavy on everyone’s minds of the horrible flooding that was happening just north of us. Queensland had been hit with so many storms, and the floods were horrendous. Before I even arrived and it is still occurring since a cyclone hit the same areas the day after my departure. Artists from around the world and myself, came together to do a few art fusion pieces, that were auctioned off and all proceeds of sales went to the victims of the Queensland floods. I hope the sun shines on them soon.

The second leg of my trip brought me down to the Rites of Passage Fest in Melbourne. This was held in the beautiful Royal Exhibition Building. I was able to do a walk through Thursday before, thanks to event coordinator Claire Reid… and I was in awe of the interior. “Carpe  Diem”  The Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens were completed in 1880 for Melbourne’s first international exhibition, a product of the optimism, enthusiasm and energy of the people of Melbourne in the late-19th century. It felt all so perfect in Melbourne’s hip city, full of ethnic foods, arts, music and architecture. I did a few really fun tattoos, met so many new wonderful faces and had a chance to catch up with old ones. I can’t wait to visit again, and again. Thanks to Kim for a home away from home! Misses and kisses until next year.
For now February and March I will be here in Colorado. April I maybe making a trip to AZ before heading to NJ…. so stay tuned for updates…see you soon xoxo  p.s. here’s a neat link http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2011/01/21/285295_gossip-news.html

Australia Bound…*

I am preparing for my trip to Australia, attending the Surf n’ Ink Convention & Rites of Passage Festival…. also I will have a painting being shown at the 100 Fires Art Show….

“The 100 Fires Art Exhibition is focused on The Concept of The Rites Of Passage, A look into The history of Art making and indigenous cultures, To rebirth The connection of Spirituality and mythology in both the ancient and the modern world. To embrace the earth as our mother and to redefine our cultural and historical roots within tribal principles of The arts and tattoo culture, and most importantly to rebuild a harmonious connection with nature. This exhibition will focus on the recreation of old concepts and mythology, juxtaposing them within the context of society and culture today. As we pay homage to our ancestoral roots, and native forefathers who have paved the way for the future generations of artists. “

I do still have availability for both of these conventions so please feel free to email me here on my contact page if interested.

End of 2010, Hello 2011 !!

As 2010 comes to a close, 2011 is already knocking on the door yet I have a few projects to finish up by the first week of January. My travels came to an end the beginning of November and I have been settling back at home in Breckenridge…. and the snow is goooood!  2010 has been a fun yet challenging year… and it’s only right to have it end on a busy painting note.  Just recently finished this painting,

“Luna Cocoon” 16″/20″ oil on canvas board

I have great things to look forward to in 2011, I will be making my first trip to Australia for Surf n’ Ink Tattoo convention January  21, 22, 23 and the following weekend the new and exciting Rites of Passage Fest held at the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne Australia.  I was asked to show a piece of art work for the 100 Fires Art Exhibition held during the Rites of Passage.  I am super excited about this, check back to see my contribution and further information about the exhibition.

Lastly, I wanted to take a moment and let you all know about the new book “Sharp-Focus Realism in Oil” by Nick Baxter. After a month of waiting patiently I finally received my copy. It is a gorgeous book for sure!  Flipping through the pages and seeing the layout, detail, over flowing of informative knowledge; it’s definitely under priced at just $60.  “Aimed specifically at helping tattoo artists who are seeking to expand their artistic practice into a second medium, this book makes many helpful comparisons between the tattoo and painting mediums; at the same time, it encompasses enough information to be of immense value to all aspiring realist oil painters, from beginner to intermediate level.”
